Polarization curve

The relationship curve of electrode potential and current density is called polarization curve. To show the polarization performance of an electrode process directly, we usually need to measure the overpotential or electrode potential as a function of the current density.
With characteristic potential (self-corrosion potential, pitting potential etc) we can evaluate the corrosion properties of the metals. Through polarization curve, we can also obtain Tafel parameters directly. The corrosion–inhibiting rate can also be calculated. Through polarization curve we can study the inhibitor mechanism etc.
